The Variance to Continue
Summer Concerts and Benefits at the Hickory Grove Opry Farm
A Public hearing that was held
before the Tewksbury Township Land Use Board,
that was to decide if the
summer concerts and Benefits are to continue, was once again
stalled
We wish to THANK,
All our many friends and
family that turned out to show their support
for both the time and effort
and to let you know that no matter how long it takes and no
matter how many times it gets stalled, we intend to do what
ever it takes to make sure that
"MUSIC
IN AGAIN HEARD IN THE GROVE"
!
The Hickory Grove Opry Farm Again
Welcomes Country Music Lovers.
Both Ellie and John Burd wish
to extend a Very Special Thank You to all of our many friends
both in the surrounding area and nation wide for all of their support
and encouragement during our recent
hearing which determined the fate of future
shows at the Hickory Grove Opry Farm. The Hickory Grove
Farm has always opened it's doors to local organizations and the
community, in a effort to keep traditional country music alive and well
through jamboree's and festivals. Why at one time 29 different churches
in area, gathered at the Hickory Grove Farm, for their meetings.
Gatherings have been held on the farm since the 1800's, for over 100
years Farmersville school was located on the farm, recently ever changing
ordinances threaten the farms ability to continue holding it's jamborees.
The
Hickory Grove Opry will keep a tradition of music on the Hickory Grove
Farm alive.
After our recent victory, plans are
already underway for the annual "Carrie Ann Burd Memorial Benefit
Show" which help support the Hunderdon Regional Cancer Center, in
Flemington N.J.
his is Ralph
Emery's life's work... It will become his legacy!!
About the Hickory Grove Opry
Along Hunterdon County's northern border in rural
Tewksbury Township, New Jersey, lies a village of Farmersville, a place where
legends are bigger then boundaries. Here, Old Joe Lee, the famous fiddler of
Owltown, filled the air above the hilltop farms with his sweet sawing. More then
100 years later, five local boys got together to create their own music in
Tewksbury and before long the Burd Boys were "Settin' the woods On
Fire!"
What started as a Thursday night jam session in the barnyard of the family
farm, has now become The Hickory Grove Opry. The storage barn is used 3 or 4
days a summer in tribute
by Ellie and John Burd to honor The Burd Boys, one of
New Jersey’s most popular Country Music bands in the ’60s and ‘70s, and an
important piece of New Jersey’s Country music heritage.
Though the grove is still there , the shows are now hosted in the
farms storage barn, which transforms into our Own Opry on the select
summer dates. Our aim is to bring to you the best in
today's Classic Country Music. We welcome people of all ages and cater to a
family orientated atmosphere. With the motto "Y'all Come"
we hope that you will come out and join us for a great evenings entertainments.
Please feel free to look around and enjoy. With the 2007 season now in
the works there will be new additions and postings as they become available, so
check back often!
